China Mobile Limited & state news agency Launch Internet Search Engine.

World’s Biggest Mobile Operator China Mobile Ltd. and Xinhua new Agency Launched  a Internet Search Engine in a Joint venture. The Search Engine, www.panguso.com , is said to be maintained by a Joint venture company operated by two, and it would be available for mobile users too.

The Search Engine (Panguso.com) can be translated as the “God od Search”,Pangu was the creator of the universe in chinese Mythology.

China's main government news agency launched an Internet search site, giving its own sanitized view of the Web following Google's closure of its China-based search engine last year over censorship.

The Xinhua News Agency is operating http://www.panguso.com in partnership with state-owned China Mobile Ltd., the world's biggest phone carrier by subscribers.

The venture gives the ruling Communist Party a new tool to try to control what China's public sees online. Industry analysts say it might be commercially viable, drawing on Xinhua's news report and China Mobile's vast subscriber base, but is unlikely to challenge local industry leader Baidu Inc., which has more than 75 percent of China's search market.

Xinhua and China Mobile announced the venture in August after Google Inc. closed its China-based search engine, saying it no longer wanted to comply with Chinese censorship and complaining its e-mail service was hacked from China.

Xinhua said it hopes to make Panguso one of China's leading search engines.

Facebook simplifies privacy and secrecy policy

Social networking site Facebook has often been at the recieving end due to its privacy policy. One major grouse being the way privacy policy is written and its length. Seems Facebook is eager to change that.

The company has unveiled a draft of its new privacy policy.

In a blog post, the company said, "At Facebook, we are constantly developing new experiences and features to help you control your information.

Some of our recent work includes simplified privacy settings and publisher privacy controls that let you select your audience every time you post something on Facebook. We plan a lot more innovations in the months ahead so check back from time to time."

"However, there is more to controlling your information than just settings. It's also important that you understand how information is used and what your choices are.

That's why the privacy team took on a new project and applied Facebook's unconventional, innovative spirit to develop a new privacy policy written for regular people," stated the blog post.

Acknowledging the criticsm levelled against its privacy policy, the blog says, "Many websites' privacy policies are challenging for people to understand because they are often written for regulators and privacy advocates, not the majority of people who actually use those websites.

Our own privacy policy has been criticized as being "5830 words of legalese" and "longer than the US constitution – without the amendments." Okay, you're right. We agree that privacy policies can and should be more easily understood, and that inspired us to try something different."

According to Web reports, though the substance of the new draft policy appears to be largely similar to that of the old policy, the font is larger, with navigation elements built in.

Where necessary, the policy also is accompanied by illustrations showing the user what it means when a user selects data to be shown to everyone.

Google latest Search Algorithm to Combat Content

You can see now Google is functioning a little differently these days. The search engine recently made a major change to their search algorithms in order to strike back at so-called “content farms”. These sites, which feature large amounts of mass-produced content angled to rank high on Google, have been accused of reducing the overall quality of search results. Demand Media, owners of eHow, are perhaps the best-known content farm.Google expects these changes to affect roughly 12% of search results. 84% of the top dozen blocked domains on Google Chrome were included in the sweep. Since this is a blanket change, there is some fear that it could cause issues for legitimate sites. Sorting the good sites from the bad ones is complicated by the fact that many content farms also have legitimate arms. For example, Demand Media also owns Cracked.com, which is very definitely not a ‘farmed’ site.

Demand responded to these changes earlier today. Their EVP of Media and Operations noted that some of their properties rose and some fell due to the move. He did state that “at this time” Demand has not seen a material impact on their business from the change.

While every piece of analysis you’ll find on this change will mention the phrase “content farms”, Google has avoided using that term. Matt Cutts, of Google’s spam fighting team, told Search Engine Land that “I think people will get the idea of the types of sites we’re talking about.”

Virus hacks 1,50,000 cellphones in China Beijing

A mobile phone virus has infected 150,000 people in China allowing hackers to remotely monitor calls, according to the Beijing Times.

Named 'X Undercover', the virus takes advantage of existing vulnerabilities in smartphones by forcing the three-way calling service to secretly open.

It allows conversations and text messages to be monitored and copied after the virus breaks into the calling sequence, said Zou Shihong, a security expert with NetQin Mobile Inc.

The virus can also secretly video the phone's owner, retrieve call and text records as well as pinpoint the user's latest GPS position, reports the China Daily .

The software is marketed towards discovering a spouse's betrayal, a cheating employee or simply to monitor your child.

In China, it's against the law to bug and monitor personal information, according to mobile security experts who advise people to be cautious when clicking attachments in multimedia messages or allowing others to use their phone.

Google TV software to power Samsung TVs

Samsung Electronics Co, the largest television maker, is planning to use Google TV software in home- entertainment devices based on its own chips, rather than those from Intel Corp, a person with knowledge of the plans said.

Samsung had previously considered using the Google Inc software and balked after Google required use of Intel's Atom chips, said the person, who declined to be identified because Samsung's plans haven't been made public. Google lifted the restriction.

MOTOROLA XOOM has a surper dual-core processor and Android 3.0(Honeycomb) OS specially desighed for tablest Large 10.1 inch HD widescreen display
4G LTE Upgrade  2 MP Webcam and 5MP camera with 720P HD video capture and playback

Google's first tablet operating system, Android 3.0 Honeycomb debuted on the Motorola Xoom.Google's first tablet operating system, Android 3.0 Honeycomb debuted on the Motorola Xoom. Motorola launched the Xoom with four accessories. The one that really stands out is the HD Speaker Dock—it allows you to run Android 3.0 on your HDTV.
The Motorola Xoom's built-in speaker isn't very impressive, and the speaker in the HD media dock. The exciting part of the dock is around back, where there's a micro-HDMI port so you can connect your docked Xoom to an HDTV or monitor.

Whatever is on the Motorola Xoom's screen is mirrored when connected to an HDTV or monitor. The Xoom's display resolution is 1280-by-800, and the mirrored image is displayed in 1280-by-720, so the only part that is not displayed is the black notification bar.
In my tests, all of the apps on the Xoom played back on HDTV (YouTube, the Web Browser, even Google Talk), though you still have the operate the experience from the touch screen interface on the Motorola Xoom.

Nokia engineers hope for best as job cuts it is a huge blow.

Nokia and Microsoft have joined hands to offer mobile users with more mobile productivity solution.
Now the employee will see his project buried as he and thousands of other developers in Finland wonder whether they will still have jobs after Nokia closes the page on Symbian for good, opting instead for a tie-up with Microsoft.
For many Nokia workers in Finland, this was the last straw in a string of corporate re-organisations and job cuts over the past few years as the company floundered to find a viable competitive formula.

Apple new range of MacBook Pro notebooks

Apple has just refreshed its entire line-up of MacBook Pro notebooks. The new additions include Intel s new Sandy Bridge Core i5 and Core i7 series of processors, combination of new Intel onboard and discrete AMD graphics (with no presence of NVIDIA anymore) and more storage capacity. Apple is also introducing Thunderbolt, which is Apple s implementation of Intel s Light Peak technology, a high speed connectivity port which lets you connect multiple devices such as storage drives, external displays, etc. all to a single port, thereby negating the need to have multiple ports. It has a bandwidth of 10Gb/s, which works both ways simultaneously. The new MacBook Pro s also have FaceTime HD, which let s you make video calls in 720p widescreen.

Unfortunately, no changes have been made to the display resolution and even the RAM is the same as on the previous generation model. The battery life has degraded, down to 7 hours on all models, from 10 hours on the 13-inch model and 8-9 hours on the 15-inch and 17-inch models. Prices are the same as the previous generation models. The new range now includes two 13-inch models, two 15-inch models and one 17-inch model. Here are the the full specs (click to enlarge).

Maruti Suzuki SX4 Diesel Launched

Country’s largest passenger car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki that has finally launched the diesel variant of its well to do SX4 sedan in India.

The diesel engine under its hood is basically the 1.3 lire DDiS engine powering its siblings, the Swift, Dzire and the Ritz. But, what makes the powertrain on the new SX4 Diesel different is its variable geometry turbocharger that increases its overall power to a impressive 90PS @ 4000 rpm and further gives out a decent 200Nm of torque @ 1750  rpm. Mated to a 5 speed gearbox, the SX4 Diesel is quick when on the move, and can easily go from 0 to 100 km/h in just about 14 seconds to the clock.

Proposed mileage is of around 21.5 kilometers to the litre, and in real world conditions this converts to 14-15 kilometers. The interiors on the new SX 4 Diesel remain the same and though the plastics are of a great quality it is the texture that leaves you still wanting.

The SX4 diesel is now available across Maruti Suzuki showrooms in two variants, namely the VDi and ZDi, which will sell for 7,74,000 for the former and 8,62,000 for the latter.

Facebook app allows you to replace your profile picture with a video.

A new facebook app allows you to replace your profile pic with a video.
The 'Flip your profile' app has been built by Cisco and DDB Singapore in order to promote Cisco's line of Flip video cameras.
However, firstly your friends will need to have installed the plug-in to see your video and secondly an advert appears on your page promoting the product.
If you still want to upload your Facebook video profile, Mashable has published an easy four step guide to doing so;
  1. Go to facebook.com/FlipSG and download the browser plugin for Chrome, Safari, Firefox or IE.
  2. Restart your browser.
  3. Connect your profile with the app.
  4. Shoot and send video by e-mailing a video from your Flip Video cam to, or by using the Profile Maker to shoot a video using your webcam or to upload an existing video (less than 10MB, .flv, .mp4, h.264 only).*
*Note: If you’re using, for example, your iPhone to shoot video, you’ll need to use a free file converter like Get Miro to convert your .mov file to one of the compatible formats. You should also shoot your video in horizontal mode; otherwise, it will appear sideways on your pro

A faster JavaScript engine and accelerated video for PCs with graphics processing units are features of the Chrome 10 beta release from Google. But as the browser wars heat up, such gains are likely to slow. Google's Chrome 10 beta also makes it easier for users to navigate its configuration settings, and passwords can be saved across computers.
Google's development team says Chrome 10 beta's new V8 JavaScript engine represents a 66 percent improvement over the previous release. Moreover, the GPU acceleration promises to reduce CPU usage in machines equipped with capable graphics hardware

Some of the great Oscar moments

Adrien Brody, the youngest performer ever to win the Best Actor award planted a passionate kiss on Halle Berry's lips after she presented him with the trophy. Adrien then remarked to Berry, "Bet you didn't know that was in the gift bag."

Angelina Jolie, who won the Best Supporting Actress award for 'Girl, Interrupted', said: "I'm in shock. And I'm so in love with my brother right now, he just held me and said he loved me."
Jolie's speech raised many eyebrows and she proved it to the world that she is a 'girl interrupted' in actual life too.

Who could forget Roberto Benigni's acrobatics at the 1998 Oscars? Benigni made his way to the stage by climbing on the back of chairs to accept his Best Actor award.

When Nicole Kidman lost to Halle Berry the Best Actress trophy, Chris Rock made fun of Nicole Kidman's 100 watt smile. He said, "The only acting you ever see at the Oscars is when people act like they're not mad they lost. Nicole Kidman was smiling so wide, she should have won an EMMY at the Oscars for her great performance. I was like, if you'd done that in the movie, you'd have won an Oscar, girl."

Jack Palance dropped to the floor and performed one-handed push-ups to demonstrate his strength even at age 73, while accepting the Best Supporting Actor Award for City Slickers.

When Cuba Gooding Jr. won the Best Supporting Actor award for 'Jerry Maguire' in 1997, he was jumping on the stage like an excited kid shouting: "I love you! Tom Cruise! I love you, brother! I love you, man!...Everybody, I love you. I love you all," , before sealing his speech with a loud 'Hallelujah'.

After winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 'The Aviator', Blanchett said: " Thank you to Martin Scorsese - I hope my son will marry your daughter."

When Julia Roberts won the Best Actress Award, she took total control of the stage by telling the orchestra conductor Tom Conti to sit down and let her finish her long emotional speech.
